How to play Rummy

3 steps to your first hand

01

Take a seat

Hit "Play now" to sit down with three bots. Cards are dealt automatically — no setup needed.

02

Draw, meld, discard

Each turn: draw a card, lay down any sets or runs you can, then discard one card to pass the turn.

03

Race to 500

Play round after round. Melded cards score points for you; whoever reaches 500 points first wins the game.

The rules, quickly

Objective

Four players race to 500 points by laying down melds and by "going out" — playing every card in your hand before the others do.

Sets & runs

A set is 3–4 cards of the same rank. A run is 3+ consecutive cards in one suit. Aces play high or low, but not both ends at once.

Your turn

Draw one card from the stock or the discard, lay down or extend any melds you can, then discard one card to pass the turn.

Scoring

Face cards are worth 10, aces 1, others their number. Melded cards score for you; cards left in hand score against you.

Using this table

how to actually click through a turn

1. Select cards

Click any card in your hand to select it — it lifts up with a gold outline. Click again to deselect.

2. Lay a meld

Select 3 or more cards that form a valid set or run, and the "Lay set/run" button lights up. Click it to place them on the table.

3. Add to any meld

Select just 1 card, then look at the melds on the table. Any meld it can extend — yours or a bot's — gets a gold outline. Click that meld to add your card to it.

4. Discard to finish

Select exactly 1 card and click "Discard selected card" to end your turn. You must discard once per turn, even if you laid melds first.

Rounds vs. the game

A round

Cards are dealt fresh, you play until someone empties their hand (or the stock runs out), then scores are tallied and a new round starts automatically.

Going-out bonus

Whoever empties their hand first also collects the value of every card still sitting in the other three hands. Emptying your hand early is worth chasing.

The game

Rounds keep repeating — scores carry over each time. The moment someone's total reaches 500, that round's summary becomes the final game result.
